KAMPALA - Works and Transport minister Gen Edward Katumba Wamala, has warned against forging COVID-19 tests for travellers using Entebbe International Airport saying it will attract severe sanctions.

The minister issued the warning on Tuesday while addressing the press at Uganda Media Centre in the capital, Kampala.

Wamala said any breach could attract negative publicity and sanctions on Uganda.

"It is now an International requirement that every traveller must have a PCR test done 72 hours before travel. Do not try to forge the PCR results. We have machines to detect," said Wamala.

"If it is found that our Airport allowed a forgery to sail through, it will result in the closure of our Airport."

Background

The Government closed Entebbe airport on March 22, as one of the measures put in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the country.

On September 20, President Yoweri Museveni announced that Uganda's international airport and land borders will reopen and resume operations for tourists after more than six months of closure.
