KASSANDA - The Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) is investigating an audio phone recording where a family in Kassanda district is accusing Kassanda South MP Simeo Nsubuga of issuing threats against them over political related battles in the area.

According to Rachael Kawala, the Police spokesperson for the Wamala region, Abdalatif Sonko reported being threatened by Nsubuga and also handed over to Police an audio-phone recording as evidence.

"We are mandated to protect the lives of all Ugandans and their property. We have received a complaint from Sonko concerning alleged death threats from Hon. Nsubuga. We treat the allegations as a serious matter and we have commenced with investigations," Kawala said, adding that Nsubuga will be summoned to record a statement over the issue.

The case against Nsubuga was recorded at Kiganda Police station under file: REF: SD/01/10/2020.

According to the phone audio recording that is allegedly attributed to Nsubuga that Saturday Vision has obtained, the MP cautions Sonko against rallying and inciting his supporters in the constituency.

Describing the matter as one of life and death, Nsubuga allegedly warns Sonko not to dare him, adding that he should be careful because he has a young family to cater for.

Although Police confirmed that they have listened to the audio and registered a complaint on the same from Sonko, efforts by Saturday Vision to talk to Nsubuga were futile.

By press time, he was yet to respond to allegations contained in the audio recording that has since been circulated on social media.

During the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party primaries last month, Nsubuga was defeated by Michael Muhumuza.

There are reports that Nsubuga, a former Police officer, is preparing to run as an Independent for the Kassanda South parliamentary seat in the forthcoming 2021 general elections.

When Saturday Vision contacted Sonko, he confirmed that he reported the matter to Police. He also added that he is the NRM party registrar for Kiganda Town Council in Kassanda South.

Sonko alleges that prior to the NRM party primary polls, Nsubuga asked him to join his camp, but he declined.

"I declined to join his camp because my job requires one to be neutral," he said, adding that following the disagreements, contenders asked the NRM to deploy him elsewhere.

Sonko was deployed in Makokota, Kassanda South as NRM registrar.

However, he alleges that days to the NRM polls, he was kidnapped by unknown people and dumped somewhere within Kassanda.

Police are investigating the matter.
