Police battles suspected land grabbers

MUKONO- Police in Mukono have evicted hundreds of unknown people who had encroached on a piece of land in Gwafu, Goma division in Seeta.

The group totaling to about 200 people are said to have invaded the land on Thursday (September 17, 2020) last week.

According to police intelligence, the group was not known by the residents which posed a security threat in the area.

The District Police Commander for Mukono, Abubakar Musiho, said immediately they received information, they swung into action.

Musiho added that the group came from Nakasongola, Mbuya, Makindye, Kasokoso and other areas in the name of being veterans.

"The group claims they got permission from the land owners which is not right. We realized that they had started building and selling 50x 100 plots at sh200,000 - sh500,000," he said.

Alex Waswa, the chairman Gwafu West,  who also lives near the said land, said his residents complain of insecurity and losing property to the group.

"My people are complaining that their property was stolen and some destroyed by the land encroachers," he said.
