Nayebare has vowed to petition the NRM authorities, citing irregularities in the elections.

Godfrey Aine Sodo Kaguta emerged winner in the hotly contested primaries in Mawogola North. Anifa Kawooya was also declared winner in Mawogola West. She defeated MP Joseph Sekabito.

The belated National Resistance Movement (NRM) primaries for Mawogola North and West in Sembabule district were held on Wednesday under tight security to avert acts of violence, intimidation of voters and hooliganism.

In Mawogola North, the race had three contenders, including the daughter of the foreign minister, Shartsi Musherure Nayebare, President Museveni's young brother Sodo Kaguta and Salim Kisekka.

The Deputy Inspector General of Police, Gen Sabiiti Muzeyi, deployed heavily in almost all corners of Mawogola electoral area and across the district.

Roadblocks manned by the Police and the Uganda People's Defence Force (UPDF) were set up along roads to Sembabule.

This was reportedly intended to prevent the importation of strangers.

At the end of the day, the NRM EC chairperson, Dr Tanga Odoi, had to announce two winners. Kaguta and Kawooya turned out to be the two candidates who had polled the highest number of votes in the two different constituencies.
