Museveni mourns Obua's mother

President Yoweri Museveni has mourned the mother of state minister for sports, Denis Hamson Obua. Museveni, who contributed sh10m towards burial expenses, said Imat Hellen Adongo nurtured her children well and that they are serving the country diligently. Adongo passed on last week, at the International Kampala, Hospital.

She died of heart complications and was buried on Wednesday, at her home in Amindit village, Awori parish, Abako subcounty in Alebtong district.

In a speech read by the state minister for information, communications technology and national guidance, Peter Ogwang, Museveni said the deceased nurtured her children to be honest, hard working and trustworthy.

He said he appointed Obua based on his honesty, trust and wealth of experience he exhibited in handling sports. Four of Adongo's children — Obua, Maj. Denis Amstrong Obua, Jasper Okello and one prisons officer, are serving in the Government.

Bukedea Woman MP Anita Among contributed sh10m, First Lady Janet Museveni sh5m, Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) sh10m and deputy speaker of parliament Jacob Oulanyah sh7m, among others.

Mrs Janet Museveni, in a speech delivered by education state minister Rosemary Sennide, said the appointment of Obua brought in a new chapter in the sports sector due to his commitment. The bishop of West Lango Diocese, Ceasar Nina Otim, warned mourners against witchcraft. He said people spend a lot of money on visiting witchdoctors.
