The Police in Entebbe have arrested a suspected fraudster who allegedly tried to steal money from an old woman's bank account in the guise of helping her.
The Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, identified the suspect as Geoffrey Wandera, 39, a resident of Abayitababiri in Entebbe municipality.
Owoyesigyire said the suspect spotted an old woman while she had gone to withdraw money from the ATM room on Monday and also moved in, claiming he wanted to render her some assistance.
Surprisingly, he replaced the old woman's genuine card with a fake one," Owoyesigyire said.
He added that in the process, Wandera allegedly kept on inserting his fake card in the machine and it could be rejected.
Minutes later, the old woman became suspicious and alerted Stanbic Bank security guards who swiftly rushed in and arrested the suspect.
Police added that as soon as they arrested the suspect, they subjected him to a search and in the process, he was found in possession of seven ATM cards registered in different names, including the one he had stolen from the victim.
Meanwhile, the Police have also embarked on crosschecking in their records to ascertain whether they have ever registered any cases against the same suspect as inquiries into the matter continue.
