Shoprite employees gave back to their communities by joining the global movement and organising a number of cleanups on World Cleanup Day (September 19, 2020).

The retailer took the lead among its peers by staging Africa's Biggest Cleanup in 2018, where more than 12,000 volunteers at over 400 events across 12 countries collected 26,000 bags of waste.

Cleanups provide opportunities for store employees to foster relationships with the communities they serve outside of the trading environment with the importance of such relationships becoming even clearer in the face of a global pandemic.

Cleanups took place at the following locations:

● Kitooro Market
● Usafi Market
● Bugolobi Market

As per the new normal, face masks are mandatory and participants adhere to social distancing practices at all times.
