Buliisa business community in Buliisa district has urged the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) to help them revive their businesses which were affected floods.

The request was made by a group of businesspeople who advised the government to pick a leaf from other countries that help their nationals remain in business after being affected by disasters.

Christopher Sabiti, a proprietor in Wanseko, says he cannot afford to pay the water and electricity bills ever since the floods destroyed his property.

Sabiti says before the floods and lockdown, he used to save sh6m per month.

Jimmy Manyireki, another proprietor said his four houses including a guest house and three rentals were submerged causing losses.

He called upon the government to support business people in the district to revive their business.

The LC I Chairman, Herbert Lukumu said continuous floods have interrupted the Uganda National Roads Authority(UNRA) plan of constructing a ferry terminal in Wanseko.

Lukumu also said the community is at a higher risk of acquiring waterborne diseases since all pit latrines of about 500  homesteads submerged contaminating sources of water for the community.
