Wakiso changes model of nomination

Wakiso district returning officer, Tolbert Musinguzi has changed the model of nominations in order to ensure social distancing during the exercise.

To achieve this, Musinguzi has given each constituency its own date for nomination. A candidate who shows up on a wrong date, will not be attended to.

Working with police, Musinguzi said the new method is going to decongest the nomination area.

On Thursday (September 24, 2020), he handled Makindye Ssabagabo, on Friday (September 25,2020) he will handle Kira municipality and Kyadondo East.

On Monday next week, Wakiso EC will handle candidates from Nansana Municipality, on Tuesday and Wednesday it will be Busiro North and Busiro East respectively.

The nomination exercise will end on October 1, 2020 and according to Musinguzi, all those who will have missed, will be handled on that day.

Joseph Kamukama, the OC Wakiso division police station said it is mandatory for candidates to wear face masks, and whoever fails to do so, will not be allowed to access the nomination room.

"Hand washing and measuring people's temperature will be done from the main gate," he added.

In this new arrangement, police is to register all the candidates who will turn up for the exercise. And each candidate will be given a card including one's number.

According to Musinguzi, this is to respond to the big number of candidates who turned up for nominations on the first day.

"The huge numbers made it difficult to observe social distancing," he added.

On Wednesday, the mayor of Nansana municipality Regina Bakitte (NUP) was nominated.

Bakitte is to face off with the National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidate Hamiddu Nsubuga.

Michael Mutebi, was also nominated on the same day and he's to contest for the position of Entebbe municipality mayor.
