The operation was conducted mainly to stop people from violating the social standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Over 18 people are said to have been arrested and detained at Kampala Central Police Station, in an operation that was jointly conducted by both Police, and the Local Defence Unit (LDU) operatives on Monday (September 21, 2020) night.

The Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire said, the operation was conducted mainly to stop people from violating the social standard operating procedures (SOPs), especially the boda boda riders who work past 6pm, and others who enter bars to consume alcohol.

"Our officers arrested most of the suspects from Equatorial Mall, on William Street, Luwum, Market Street, among other areas and as soon as our investigations are done, we shall arraign them to Courts of law" he said.

In his address to the nation on Sunday (September 20,2020), President Yoweri Museveni, declined to allow bars to open on grounds that drunkards cannot manage to control themselves when it comes to keeping the social distance.

The president however, allowed churches to open but limited the number of people to 70.

He further allowed schools, universities, and other higher learning institutions to open for candidate classes only.
