Several graduates from technical and vocational academic institutions are tempted to abandon their courses to enrol at universities, due to lack of a clear career path and the misconception that to excel in life you must get a degree.
Courses such as welding and hairdressing, among others, are not stand-alone programmes (courses) at universities and would only lead to diplomas and certificates.
But that tide is set to change, with reforms in the Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) sub-sector.
This means that very soon, a student pursuing a technical course at any of the colleges in the country, will have a chance to enrol for a Bachelor's, Master's, or a doctorate of Philosophy in the same fields, authorities have revealed.
