A five-year-old boy has been killed in Bundibugyo district and his body dumped in a pit latrine.

The incident happened on Friday night at Hakitengya village in Tokwe sub-county.

According to the village chairperson, James Basaliyaki, the incident was reported to his office and a search ensued.

"The young boy went missing yesterday in the morning at around 11:00am and his father reported the matter to my office and we even took announcements on the radio about the missing child. I there and then alerted my village defense team and we started looking for the child but all in vain," he said.

"We immediately alerted the LC1 leaders who also called the Police," Kabadeda said.

Police in Bundibugyo confirmed the incident but declined to give a comment to the media.

The body was taken to Bundibugyo Hospital for postmortem.
