Poem: The Stranger
Sep 18, 2020
One step through those doors and I saw him
Staring at me as I contagiously smiled back at him
I did not stutter my tread even under his unwavering scrutiny-
"Hello," he said.
Like a gentle lad, he offered me a decent seat near the entrance
For a complete stranger, he exuded an atmosphere of fair acquaintance
And an unfamiliar sense of comfort wrapped around me like a blanket-
"Perfect weather," he said.
His perfect voice resounded in my ears
Picking out each syllable that flowed from his hollow sphere
That same rich toned sound drew me from my trail of thoughts-
"How may I help you?" he asked.
He effortlessly carried himself around like royalty
Cognizant of his charm, he intimidated me with entrancing novelty
With each body movement, his subtle scent floated around-
"Anything else?" he asked.
Yes, could I have the honour of knowing you
Go for a night out karaoke to sing along to our favourite blues
Elevate my position in your life from stranger, to friend, probably more? But-
"No, thank you," I said.
Now I walk down the same street,
Showered by the tropical heat, regretting why I didn't speak
When I had the chance to, before you and your restaurant vanished-
"Shall I ever bump into you?" I ask.
