At a time when many losers in the National Resistance Movement (NRM) are filing complaints with the party election officials and others announcing that they are to contest as independent candidates, Abraham Luzzi, has announced that he has defected from NRM to Democratic Party.

"In DP, there is truth and justice and this is what I want. I have not experienced it in my NRM party," Luzzi said on Monday.

He was in the race with two others, Wilberforce Kakumba and John Mary Bugembe, vying to be NRM's flag-bearer for the Mityana Municipality seat. Bugembe was declared the winner.

A few days before the elections, while attending a joint political debate at Enro Hotel in Mityana organised by the Centre for Community Media, Luzzi said if he lost the elections, he would stand as an independent candidate.

After the primaries, Luzzi restated his position and even printed posters indicating that he was standing as an independent.

Luzzi was on Tuesday unveiled at the DP headquarters as having defected from NRM and joined the DP.

For long, Luzzi has been boasting of mobilising the youth to join the NRM from the Opposition. Now, he said, he has defected to DP with a group of his supporters.

He said the DP has allowed him to stand for the municipality parliamentary seat on its ticket.

Earlier, DP leaders in Mityana had indicated that they would back NUP's Francis Zaake.
