Maroons FC skipper Racmac Ashaba is determined to lead his side to the Uganda Premier League (UPL) after they were relegated last season.

Ashaba who is remembered for leading Kyambogo University to their first and only University Football League (UFL) title in 2018 as captain joined the Warders last year and has only played nine games with the team.

Having started only one of the nine games for Maroons, Ashaba believes if given playing time, he will execute his role in midfield to create and convert chances for his side.

"We shall arguably believe that many people look at us as favourites of the Big League since we are fresh from the top tier league, however, this will be a challenge that will call for our commitment. I will work hard to earn playing time so that I lead my team back to the UPL," vowed Ashaba.

The 22-year-old midfielder who started his football career at the age of 10 with Emma Boys Academy in Kabale has also played for Sharp Football Club (now Kigezi Home Boyz) in the Kigezi group and Banda Stars in the Kampala fourth division.

Subsequently, Ashaba's quantum leap was early last year when he signed for UPL's 16-time champions Sports Club Villa's reserve team and later joined Maroons at the end of the 2018/19 season.

The Luzira based side was relegated together with Tooro United and Uganda Cup champions Proline after the cancellation of the UPL due to Covid-19.

Ashaba says it has been hard to train during the lockdown but never the less he has tried it on an individual setting where he says that he dedicates an hour a day for full-body workouts.

"I have tried to dedicate an hour a day for full-body workouts but I as well get to the gym for muscle strengthening, aerobic and endurance conditions on the treadmill though it all comes with challenges especially knowing you not going for any competition that retards your mindset," added Ashaba.
