Activists call for strict laws to protect children from human sacrifice

Children rights activists have challenged Parliament to pass the prevention and prohibition of human sacrifice and harmful bill into law to end the increasing acts of child sacrifice.
This follows the death of three-year-old Faith Kyamagero. Kyamagero, a resident of Masaka was beheaded. The suspect was recently arrested by Police as he was taking the deceased's head to the Speaker of Parliament wrapped as a gift.
In a joint press conference by all civil society organizations on protection of children rights, the activists unanimously agreed to engage all the concerned parties to see that the bill is passed into law.
Associate Director World Vision, Irene Kagoya says the existing law has gaps and cannot address the human sacrifice cases.
Bunya South MP who represented the parliamentary committee on children affairs, Robert Ntende says the bill is ready for the first reading but has only been delayed by the ministry of finance who are yet to issue a certificate of financial implication.
