Mukembo was a counsellor

CELEBRATING LIFE

It is often said that time heals all wounds, but the old adage is yet to bring any consolation to the family of the late Johnson Mukembo.

He was their breadwinner, father and counsellor. It is now one year since the medical assistant, who saved many lives in Kagoma county and Budondo sub-county in Jinja district, went to stay with the heavenly angels.

"Our father was a blessing to us. He was indeed a caring and free man. He ensured we had an education at all costs. Even when he did not have money, he did everything possible to ensure that we were in school," Rose Babirye, Mukembo's daughter, says.

Babirye added that her father was a calm and quiet person. He was a peaceful man, who loved and valued friendship.

Every time he moved around the village on his bicycle, he was mindful to check on his friends and village elders.

This made him so friendly and a pleasure and joy to live with. He was a person who could not afford to lose friends. Exodus Wabira says his grandfather emphasised the fear of the Lord.

"Jjajja always told me to be faithful to God because fearing God is the source of wisdom. He always wanted to see me happy, and every time I came back from school, he was there to attend to me.

"Jjajja never entertained notoriety and he would not hesitate to guide me whenever I went astray.

I still remember him for his smiling face and admirable conduct. He gave me enough attention and I never regretted staying with him," he says.

Owen Magada narrates that he learnt lessons on patience, respect, hardwork and kindness from his father. These lessons have helped Magada to move on even when his father is not around.

"We miss you a lot Dad and life without you is like a dark hole that we have failed to get out of. We only look up to God hoping to find answers to our questions or to see you smiling down on us, saying you love us and miss us as much as we miss you," Magada says.

The family thank the fraternity of relatives, friends, opinion leaders and all those who stood with them during that difficult time.

Mukembo is also dearly missed by his children Resty  Mbedha, Rose Babirye  Winnie Ndibuzaku,  Owen Magada, Jackline Abukawo, Faith Kyozira and Daphine Alitwala, and his grandson Exodus Wabira.
