Uganda Cranes have been boosted with the return of goalkeeper and Skipper Denis Onyango ahead of the double-header against South Sudan in the AFCON qualifiers in November.

Onyango who had gone five games without playing due to an injury was part of South Africa's Mamelodi Sundowns winning team as they defeated Bloemfontein Celtic 1-0 in the Nedbank Cup final to secure a treble over the weekend.

Onyango had several point-blank saves to deny Bloemfontein a goal as he reclaimed his position which was earlier being taken by Zambian goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene who was in charge of the last five leagues before the weekend final.

The Cranes custodian absence in the last five games of the league had started to create a crisis in the Uganda Cranes goalkeeping department.

Many thought Cranes coach Jonathan McKinstry and his technical team were likely to have a selection headache in the goalkeeping department more so that Salim Jamal Magoola and Robert Odongkara who deputise Onyango, are also not in good form to compete for the national duty at the moment.

However, with Onyango back, Cranes are now in a comfortable position as they confront South Sudan in the doubleheader.

South Sudan who have not won any game so far in the 2021 qualifiers will face Uganda on November 9 in Kampala thereafter they will host the return leg on November 17.
