Honey sellers want government projects to enhance business

Honey sellers still face a challenge of financial skills, which include book keeping and branding.

WEST NILE - Honey sellers in Arua city, Arua district have asked the Government to give them the skills necessary for them to run their businesses successfully.

The chairperson of honey sellers in Arua town, Hamza Yonis, said they still face a challenge of financial skills, which include book keeping and branding.

He said they would be making more profits if they knew how to make bee products, such as shoe polish and vaseline.

The chairperson of Pangisa Savings and Credit Co-operative Society, Rashid Obali Kelili, said: "Honey sellers have been getting loans from us to expand their businesses. However, they need to know some financial principles, so that they can sell their honey, even to the supermarkets," he said.

The Uganda Co-operative Savings and Credit Union and Sparkassenstiftung Uganda have established a business hub in Arua. The hub is expected to train the farmers.

Sparkassenstiftung Uganda country director Edigold Monday, said: "The hub will be a referral link to the business community for financial literacy to learn new business ideas."

The senior community development officer for Arua city, Geoffrey Edema, said Arua is strategically located and is full of opportunities that include cross border trade, investments and petty businesses.
