"Last evening, the rescue team reached the basement where we had been told there were eight people trapped there, but our rescue team didn't get anybody, dead or alive," Onyango stated.

Onyango further explained that their detectives have interviewed some of the workers at the site, including the woman, who has been cooking food for the builders but information prevailed indicating that all the said workforces had left.

"According to our investigations, all the workers had left by the time the building collapsed, except Godfrey Oonyu, who was rescued on the first day of the operation," Onyango said.

Onyango called upon members of the public whose relatives were working at the site and still missing to report to Katwe Police Station.

"We believe that there is nobody still trapped in the rubble, therefore call off our rescue team and we appreciate our team who worked tirelessly day and night during this rescue operation," he said.

The remarks came after a four-storey building that was under construction at Kalezia zone, Makindye division collapsed on Friday night.

Earlier, eyewitnesses claimed that the workers were gathered in one of the unfinished rooms having their supper when the building collapsed.

However, Police have clarified that no one died and none is missing per say, except one Oonyu who was earlier rescued.
