CELEBRATING LIFE
Rev Sr. Mary Anne Conceptor Nazziwa, a member of the Catholic Congregation of the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Reparatrix (locally referred to as the Gogonya Sisters), deeply understood and observed the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
She paid strict attention to the instruction of loving, respecting and helping parents, especially during their old age.
Even during her busiest moments, Nazziwa would still spare time to visit and give due care to her ageing parents.
It is on that account that on August 30, Nazziwa, despite the fact that she was having complications of diabetes and high blood pressure, left Gogonya Convent (near Kisubi) and went to Ggaba to see her sick mother. She spent the day nursing her.
During the evening, she went back to the convent. The consolation of tending to her mother seemed to have given her extra-ordinary happiness and strength, which she exhibited during the next three days.
The Sisters at the convent were nonetheless shocked when on the fourth day (Thursday, September 3, 2020), after lunch, Nazziwa got a fatal heart complication and was rushed to Kisubi Hospital, where she died on the same day.
She was buried at the congregation's cemetery at Gogonya on September 4, 2020.
Sr. Nazziwa's sudden death shocked many people. But as Christians who have the hope of resurrection, we are not devastated. We know that in death, life is not ended but transformed. So, we shall meet Nazziwa again.
Sr. Nazziwa, we feel sad that you have left us. But we are also happy because we think you are now in paradise with your older brother Fr Robert Kaggwa, our venerable confrere in the Missionary Society of White Fathers, who died serving the Lord in London, in 2015.
You have also joined your dear father, John Chrysostom Kazibwe, who served the Catholic Church with total devotion until he passed on early this year.
Tributes
The Archbishop of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Kampala, Dr. Cyprian Kizito Lwanga acknowledged with great admiration the religious commitment of Sr. Nazziwa and her contribution to Catholic education during the 39 years she spent in religious life.
The Prelate of Lubaga said Nazziwa had educated so many useful citizens of Uganda, especially during the time she headed schools such as Kiganda PS, Jinja Karooli PS and Entebbe PS.
She also helped many needy children through her philanthropic initiatives.
Lwanga's message was delivered by his Vicar General, The Rt. Rev. Msgr. Gerald Kalumba, who also presided over the funeral mass.
Nazziwa was also praised by the Mother General of the Gogonya Sisters, the Very Rev. Sr. Dr. Speranza Namusisi and the Provincial Superior of the Brothers of Christian Instruction.
The Very Rev. Bro. Peter Kazzekulya, who all spoke highly of Nazziwa's commitment to the evangelical counsels of religious poverty, chastity and obedience.
Reflection
I lift up my eyes to the mountains - where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth (Psalm 121: 1-2).
