Joseph Mary Mubiru was a Ugandan economist and the first Governor of Bank of Uganda, at 37 years.

INDEPENDENCE HISTORY

Bank of Uganda was established on August 15, 1966, and started issuing its own national currency. Prior to this, issues to do with money were handled by the East African currency board, which had its head offices in Kenya.

Joseph Mary Mubiru was a Ugandan economist and the first Governor of Bank of Uganda, at 37 years.

Prior to that, he had played a key role in the establishment of the African Development Bank in 1964.

Mubiru was also the first managing director of Uganda Commercial Bank.

After working for the National and Pilot Displays Bank in Masaka and Uganda Commercial Bank, where he was managing director, he was Governor of the Bank of Uganda in 1966.
