Former education minister Maj. Jessica Epel Alupo has bounced back as the National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag-bearer for the Katakwi District Woman seat.

Alupo garnered 38,582 votes (46.7%) votes, beating her closest rival, the incumbent, Violet Akurut Adome, who scored 29,435 votes (35.6%).

Alupo was the Katakwi District Woman MP from 2006 to 2011, during which she was also appointed state minister for youth and children's affairs.

In 2011, she was re-elected and also served as education minister.

However, Akurut, who was a second-time contestant for the Katakwi Woman MP seat, trounced Alupo in the 2016 NRM primaries.

In the primaries held on Friday, Alupo defeated Akurut with a margin of 9,147 votes.

In Toroma County, Solomon Ossiya has taken the NRM flag with 14,441 votes against Koluo's 13,648.

Newcomer Bosco Okiror took Usuk County while ICT state minister Peter Ogwang took the newly created Ngariam Constituency.

However, Akurut disputed the results, citing rigging.

She even refused to sign the declaration forms in protest, saying the elections were not free and fair.

The NRM registrar for Katakwi said he would hand over the matter to the party's said the NRM legal team.
