Museveni promises powerful vehicles for district NRM chairpersons

President Yoweri Museveni on Monday flagged off the distribution of motorcycles to National Resistance Movement (NRM) chairpersons at the sub-county level.

Museveni launched the disbursement at the NRM secretariat in Kampala, where he also used the occasion to condemn perpetrators of violence during the party primaries.

"Instead of going to Parliament, you will go to jail. The sentence for forgery is seven years. By the time you get out of prison, this Parliament will be finished," Museveni warned those who were involved in violent acts in different parts of the country.

The President also vowed to arrest Police officers who granted bond to people who were accused of causing violence that resulted in the death or injury of civilians during the party primaries.

"You alter results, we arrest you on forgery. A stupid Policeman who does not know how to use a gun goes to jail for manslaughter," the President added.

He asked NRM politicians to emulate his example where he has managed to ‘defeat' pockets of youth who were ‘attacking' him on social media.

"I don't have to fight these children to win them over," Museveni said in relation to his social media exchanges with some youth. "You don't have to be violent with these people. Use your tongue to win them over."

He said earlier he had launched the distribution of more than 80,000 bicycles for village chairperson and that the excess bicycles had been given to the LC chairpersons.

"These motorcycles here are for sub-counties. We are now going to remain with vehicles for the districts, the 146 districts," the President said.
