The National Resistance Movement (NRM) primary elections were on Friday held in Mityana district, without following the COVID-19 laws.

In most of the polling stations, voters gathered early in the morning, but very few of them would wash their hands although water and soap had been provided at the polling stations.

In most of the polling stations, many of the voters never had masks.

Voting started at around 11:00am, as all voters lined up behind their candidate or their agents without observing the two-metre guideline.

At Kiyudaaya polling station in Mityana Municipality playground, the polling officials counted voters by touching one by one.

Most of the voters who were not on the voters' register were not allowed to vote and the exercise of checking the names took over two hours.

At Banda Stage also in Mityana town, voting started with polls for Woman Member of Parliament as the officials did not consider the registers.

However, when it came to voting for Municipality Member of Parliament, officials resolved to consider only those in the register, which the voters rejected.

Armed police who had been deployed calmed the voters.
