Police names 45 hotspots for NRM primaries

The remarks come as the ruling party is conducting primaries across the country to elect its flag bearers that will tussle opposition aspirants for Parliamentary seats in the 2021 general elections.

KAMPALA - As the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party elects its flag bearers for the Parliamentary seats across the county, Police has identified 45 hotspots across the country and deployed swat any form of election violence.

The hotspot revelation was made by the Police spokesman, Fred Enanga, adding that the force is ready to counter any election violence and ensure peaceful polling is conducted.

The remarks come as the ruling party is conducting primaries across the country to elect its flag bearers that will tussle opposition aspirants for Parliamentary seats in the 2021 general elections.

Addressing the press  at Uganda Media Centre in Kampala on Friday (September 4, 2020), Enanga said the Police had received intelligence that there were people who want to disrupt the NRM primary elections and cause mayhem.

The hotspot districts include Bunyangabu, Sembabule, Mbale, Ntoroko, Lwengo, Kyotwera, Kalungu, Kalangala, Rakai, Wakiso, Mukono, Sironko, Kirihura, Kotido, Kagadi, Kanungu and Kamwenge.

Other are Masindi, Luwero, Sheema, Kassanda, Obongi, Moyo, Yumbe, Adjumani, Buvuma, Jinja, Isingiro, Bushenyi, Bweikwe, Karenga, Ibanda and Kabaale districts.

"We have been able to gather incredible intelligence and deploy effectively," Enanga told journalists.

He said the incumbent Members of Parliament and their constituencies are among those listed in hotspot areas, fighting hard to retain their seats.

He assured the country that the ruling party election primaries will be conducted successfully.

He revealed that top police officers including the deputy IGP Sabiti Muzeyi and director AIGP Edward Ochom, among others have been deployed at the hot spots.

Enanga also disclosed that five police officers who were caught siphoning fuel on camera and the video went viral have been arrested and would be arraigned to court once the director of public prosecution sanctions their files.
