Three drown in River Nile accident

A day out on a cruise on the Nile turned tragic last evening when a boat in which a family was sailing capsized.

The wife of one Alwi Al Ahamed has since been confirmed dead, while their son and a boatman were still missing by last night.

The Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF) Marine Unit conducted the search and rescue operation on River Nile following an alert about the accident.

The UPDF's deputy spokesperson, Lt Col Deo Akiiki Asiimwe, said the 5:00pm accident happened on the waters of River Nile at Kiira Dam near Nalufenya in Jinja.
