Kagumire is the new Commissioner Customs

URA had shortlisted 16 staff out of 58 of its staff who had applied to fill the positions of those who were either sacked or whose contracts were not renewed.

KAMPALA - Abel Kagumire and Richard Kariisa have been appointed the new Commissioner Customs and Commissioner Corporate Services at the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) respectively by a special Board meeting after emerging the best in written interviews conducted by the Staff Committee on Wednesday.  

The board also appointed John Tinka Katungwensi the Assistant Commissioner Large Tax Payer office.

A statement released by URA noted that "the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) Board of Directors has at its 4th/2020 Special Board meeting held on August 26th, 2020 interviewed candidates for the vacant Senior Management positions in the Departments of Customs, Corporate Services and Domestic Taxes. The Board has consequently made the following appointments, Kagumire is the Commissioner Customs Department, Kariisa is the Commissioner Corporate Services and Katungwensi is the Assistant Commissioner Large Tax Payers Office," the statement noted.

The effective date for the above appointments will be September 1, 2020, which will be Tuesday next week.

The board also noted that candidates who were shortlisted for the positions of Assistant Commissioner Human Resource, Assistant Commissioner Trade, Assistant Commissioner Business policy, will be interviewed by the Board of Directors on Friday 28 August 2020.

URA had shortlisted 16 staff out of 58 of its staff who had applied to fill the positions of those who were either sacked or whose contracts were not renewed.

Among those who had initially applied for the position of Commissioner Customs included Jane Akello, Lukone Odeke, Abel Kagumire who has been acting Commissioner Customs, Richard Kariisa, Joseph Mugabi, Sarah Mwesigye Kasheka, Agnes Nabwire Asobola, who is the Assistant Commissioner Customs, Julius Nkwasire Mponooka, Stephen Ojambo and Goeffrey Okaka Owich.

However, the Staff Committee of the URA Board which convened on Thursday shortlisted only four candidates who included Mwesigye, Okaka, Kagumire and Ojambo.

Those who had applied for the position Commissioner Corporate Services included Micah Samuel Gaalya, Richard Kariisa, Diana Kisaka and James Kiiza.  The board however shortlisted only two and these were Kariisa and Kiiza.

Those who applied for the Commissioner Tax Investigations include Michael Byaruhanga, Milly Isingoma Nalukwago, Stephen Mugabi, Joseph Mwangala Mugabi, Sarah Mwesigye Kasheka, Julius Nkwasire Mponooka, Geoffrey Okaka Owich and Rose Sambula Wangwe.  The Staff Committee however further decided that the job description for the position of Commissioner Tax Investigation be reviewed.

Those who applied for the position of Assistant Commissioner Large Tax office were three and they included John Katungwensi Tinka, Evans Mwesigye and Damile Nguna. Only Katungwensi and Mwesigye were shortlisted.
