Man abandons wife over 'endless' producing of twins

Aug 25, 2020

Ssalongo Moses Isabirye, 35, vanished leaving behind his wife and seven children including three sets of twins.

This followed the doctor's speculation that Lakeri Namulondo,25, a resident Butansi Sub County, Kamuli district could get triplets on her next pregnancy.

The news shocked Isabirye who decided to leave before the calamity befalls, leaving Namulondo to take care of the children.

Koowa Masaka Kabatiisa, the LC1 Chairman, said Namulondo married Isabirye after the death of her parents.

Namulondo said she dropped out of school at 15 years, got married and had seven children in a space of 10 years.

Namulondo returns to parent's home

Eight months after her husband fled, Namulondo decided to return to her parent's home, where she survives on handouts from the locals and good Samaritans.

Kabatiisa, the LC1 Chairman said Namulondo faces many challenges, ranging from lack of food, medication, and psycho social support.

Namulondo says she works in the neighbour's gardens, burns charcoal or fetches water in order to get some money to buy food and drugs for her children.

She says she has not considered remarrying for fear of conceiving triplets with another man.

"I fear that the new man may also abandon me," she said.

Involving Police

Namulondo said she cannot afford the financial implications involved in reporting her husband to police so that they hunt him down.

She appealed to organizations and Good Samaritans to come to her aid.

According to ASP Richard Kagoda, the Officer in Charge of the home and child protection unit at Kamuli CPS, cases of domestic violence, child neglect, home abandonment and defilement have rocked communities during the COVID-19 lock down.
