KAMAPLA- Wandegeya Police Station has detained Inspector of Police Luben Ngasaki, a police officer attached to Wandegeya Police Station, and his son, Walter Mumbere, after the latter was found dressed in his father's police uniform.

According to Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson, Patrick Onyango, the incident happened on August 23, at around 21:00 hours in Wandegeya Police Station.

Onyango said Mumbere, a civilian, picked the uniform from the police barracks where he stays with his father and wore it while the father was away from home.

"Mumbere, who was drank, moved out while making uncoordinated statements, which raised suspicion that he wasn't a police officer," Onyango pointed out in a statement today.

The statement followed a video which went viral on social media showing Mumbere visibly drunk while in a police uniform.

Onyango noted that Mumbere was arrested and taken to Wandegeya police station where it was established that he was not a police officer.

"He has been charged with being in possession of government stores and his father Inspector of Police Ngasaki has been charged with neglect of duty since he failed to protect government stores," Onyango said.

Both suspects are detained at Wandegeya Police Station pending court.

Onyango, however, said Ngasaki is likely to appear in the police disciplinary court while his son will appear in a criminal court.

"We want to advise all police officers to guard jealously all the police kits and equipment in their possession and not allow their relatives and children to play with them," Onyango quipped.
