MENGO - The first deputy Katikiro of Buganda, Twaha Kaawaase has urged Ugandans to embrace insurance so that their assets and businesses get quick help in case of unfortunate events.

Kaawaase stressed that one needs strong measures like insurance to protect his or her assets and businesses in times of uncalled circumstances.

He made the remarks, Thursday, during the inauguration of the board of governors of Werinde Insurance Services Limited, an entity of the Buganda Kingdom at Bulange, Mengo in Kampala district.

"You cannot leave God to protect your businesses and assets without putting in efforts, this is why we have started this company to serve Ugandans, but to also generate funds to run the cultural bottom line and also do service delivery in the Kingdom," Kaawaase said.

He added that the move for the Kingdom to get into insurance services is a fulfilment of one of the plans they lined up for implementation in the Kingdom's 2018/2023 strategic plan.

The second deputy Katikiro, Robert Waggwa Nsibirwa, also the Kingdom's finance minister, said the insurance company was to provide employment to the King's subjects and several Ugandans at large.

Nsibirwa introduced the board of seven people led by Dr. Evelyn Nabakka Kigozi, among other members, as the chairperson to serve on the board of Werinde Insurance Services.

Immediately, the Katikiro handed over instruments of power to the board chairperson and commissioned them to start work.
