COVID-19: Uganda registers 318 new cases in a single day

Today the ministry has registered 318 cases, making it the  l highest number of covid 19 cases recovered in a single day in Uganda.

Out of this, 154 cases are from Amuru prisons. These include 153 prisoners and one prison staff. Amuru prison  is a holding prison where new prisoners are admitted before being transferred to the regular prison facility.

Among contacts and alerts there were 136 cases registered. These include 65 from Kampala, 14 Kiryandongo, 9 Gulu, 9 Mbarara, 8 Kitgum, 8 Arua, 7Wakiso, 4 Mbale, 4 BUIKWE, 2 Masaka, while Bugiri, luweero, Manafwa, masindi, mityana, recorded one each.






The ministry also recorded one death of a 49 year old male from Mbale district. This brings the total number of deaths to 20.

Twenty (20) health workers also tested positive for COVID. Nine are from Kitgum, six from Kampala, two from Arua while Adjumani, Kiryandongo and Luweero recorded one each. Among truck drivers, 8 tested positive for Covid 19. 

Todate, Uganda has a total cumulative case tally of  2,166. Therefore, the country has hit the 2000 mark for it's case tally. The recovered now stand at 1,396.

Still on health workers testing positive, the number is 73 as of today.

Kampala still remains the epicentre with the highest number of community transmission. Kampala now has 540 cases. Of these 342  were registered within the last one week.

Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng reiterated the need to ensure that workplaces strictly observe the SOPs and infection, prevention and control measures to limit the spread of COVID. Workplaces contribute the majority cases in Kampala.

So far cases have been recorded  at Malaysia furnishing, Royal Pharma, Ministry of finance, IGG, KCCA, Toyota, NRM, Eagle holdings, Meghan industries and media houses including New Vision, NBS, NTV and BBS.

"This highlights the need to ensure that workplaces strictly observe the Standard Operating Procedures and Infection, Prevention and Control measures to limit the spread of COVID-19," Aceng said.
