"I will never forget that day. Even with the small numbers, we celebrated, had fun and our guests encouraged us to love one another like Christ loved the church. "

RELATIONSHIP & DATING

Before the lockdown, Dr Augustine Lubanga and Oliver Nalubega already had plans to wed and had even started holding their wedding meetings every Sunday.

However, with the lockdown they had to stop holding wedding meetings, but this didn't stop their wedding preparations.

While still making preparations, they were undecided on whether to postpone the wedding which was slated for 18th April, 2020 or continue. After discussing with friends they decided to continue with the wedding.

"We had wanted to have a mega wedding to celebrate with our friends, family and relatives but since we didn't know when COVID-19 was to end, we decided to continue and wed, "says Dr Lubanga.

On 18, April the couple wedded from St Andrew and Philip church in Mukono near Uganda Christian University.

They had only ten guests and these included parents of the bride, parents of the groom, the matron and best man plus close friends to the couple.

 Preparations

The bride says before they notified their friends about their intentions to wed, they had already done checks on what they would wear.

So by the time the lockdown was announced, the couple had already put certain things in place to ensure that their wedding takes places.

The Lubanga's say they had already catered for what to wear and also the church they would go to and this made it very easy for them to have the wedding successfully.

The Lubanga's say that by the time the lock down was announced, they had just started searching for service providers who could help them have a stress-free wedding, but before they could finalize with them, the lockdown was put hence putting them on hold.

"At that time, we were not sure of what to do. We didn't know whether to postpone the wedding or continue with the preparations, "explains the bride.

However, even when they made up their minds to continue with the wedding, they didn't need certain service providers.

"All we needed was a decorator to do simple decoration in our home gardens and this we achieved, "the couple explains.

"We had our home as venue for the reception which was decorated and we continued with our celebrations for the day, "says the bride.

She says much as she missed her friends, she believes her wedding day is a memorable one.

"I will never forget that day. Even with the small numbers, we celebrated, had fun and our guests encouraged us to love one another like Christ loved the church, "she says.

She adds that organizing her wedding was stress free as she had nothing to worry about.

There was little to spend on and since they had saved some money, they used their savings to have their scientific wedding happen.

Plans after the Pandemic

The couple notes that when the COVID-19 pandemic is over and the lock down is fully lifted, they will hold a thanks giving function, where they will invite their friends, relatives and loved ones to join them in celebration of their union.

If this fails, then they will celebrate with friends on their anniversary.
