The Archbishop of Church of Uganda, Rt. Rev Dr Samuel Kaziimba has hailed Christians of Setunga village in Kitende, Wakiso district for constructing a sh1.5b Church during the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to the Bishop of Namirembe Diocese Rt. Rev. Wilberforce Luwalira, it is exactly one year since the foundation stone of St Mark Kitende Church of Uganda was laid.
"During COVID-19 time, we have not stopped construction," Margaret Kawumi, the chairperson of building committee told the congregation.
The construction is funded by Christians who include public servants, ambassadors, teachers, and farmers, among others.
"It is an indication of committed men and women who are ready to promote God's work," Kaziimba told the Christians.
The Archbishop was presiding over the opening ceremony of St Mark Kitende Church of Uganda.
He encouraged other Christians across the country to emulate the Church members of St Mark Kitende.
He castigated those who think building a big Church like St Mark Kitende is a waste of money.
"I am overjoyed to see the Church being constructed, it's a source of comfort. We now have restorations of lives while others are thinking of building arcades," he said.
He encouraged Christians to adhere to the ministry of health guidelines to combat the COVD-19 pandemic but also as a way to motivate President Yoweri Museveni to open churches, which remained closed since March.
