This engagement is aimed at coming up with modalities of beautifying Kampala streets.

The Kampala Capital City Authority(KCCA), Physical Planning Directorate has promised to sensitize the public about Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area (GKMA).

GKMA is an ‘extension' of Kampala, meant to facilitate and coordinate the planning and development process for Kampala, Waksio, Mukono and Mpigi.

This engagement is aimed at coming up with modalities of beautifying Kampala streets, paving of building frontages and improving the general appearance of all buildings in the City.

This was revealed by the chairperson National Physical Planning Board, Amanda Ngabirano.

Ngabirano explained that by sharing a broader picture for a shared vision pursuant to Physical Planning, they will be able to involve the citizens.

The National Physical Planning Board is established by the Physical Planning Act of 2010.

In the meeting, attended by the KCCA Executive, and the Board, they told the Lord Mayor, Erias Lukwago that their major focus is software as opposed to merely regulating and enforcing.

The team shared about cleaning up the city predominantly by putting a stop to the emergent culture of littering habit.

They also promised to pursue enhancement of the Physical Planning budget country wide. KCCA Physical Planning Budget stands at sh1.58bn out of the entire sh543.50bn.

Lukwago said his major focus is the implementation of the Kampala Structural Development Plan if the city is to realise Kampala as livable, safe, resilient and sustainable City.

Lukwago handed a copy of the Kampala Structural Development Plan to the Board and assured them of his commitment to implement it.
