The Police in Mityana has arrested one of its officers over abuse of office

Cpl George Talemwa attached to Zigoti Police Post was arrested over allegations that he hid a suspect's case file and released without being charged.

Talemwa allegedly hid the file with details of a defilement case where one Sulait Bakale from Bubanzi village in Kakindu sub-county in Mityana district is accused of defiling a 15-yr-old girl. 

Bakale had earlier escaped from Police custody under unclear circumstances and his case file also went missing.

Following complaints by some of the relatives of the victims and local leaders, the Police launched investigations into the matter that led to Talemwa and Bakale's rearrest.

Sources said that the Police also searched his home where they recovered the missing file and many other files.

Talemwa was transferred to Mityana district from Luweero district.

In his house, they also recovered a number of files of different cases from his time in Luweero district.

Charles Twine the CID spokesperson said that Talemwa was transferred to Kampala from where he will be charged. 

Bakale on Wednesday appeared before the Mityana grade one magistrate Elizabeth Peace Lamunu and was charged with defilement before being remanded until August 12^.

The same court also charged Edson Nasasira with defilement and remanded him up to August 18. 

A resident of Namulamba in Kikandwa sub-county, Mityana district, Nasasira allegedly defiled a five-year-old girl.
