Aug 11, 2020

The Democratic Party (DP) has expressed concern about the increasing cases of coronavirus and deaths in the country prosposing that the elections should be postponed.
Addressing journalists at the DP headquarters in the City House, Fred Mwesigwa, the President General spokesman said more people will die if elections are held under the current circumstances.
He urged the Electoral Commission to postpone the elections as it has happened in other 50 countries in the world. So far Uganda has registered nine deaths and over 1000 cases confirmed.
He however said the DP will not boycott elections if the Electoral Commission doesn't postpone elections in 2021. Mwesigwa called upon the party members who want to contest for LC5 to pick nominations forms at the party headquarters next week.
Mwesigwa told journalists that the party will pay nominations fees for aspirants contesting under DP ticket.
Mwesigwa who was flanked by Nakaseke woman chairperson Violet Nakalema, Matthias Mulumba an aspirant for Kawempe Member of Parliament and Enoch Opio the national publicity secretary. He urged other political parties to front one joint presidential candidate to defeat President Yoweri Museveni in the next presidential elections.
