Ofwono said he had decided to unite with his predecessor, Sanjay Tanna, in order to achieve the common goal since they had been wrongly perceived to be the ones dividing the people of Tororo.

 CULTURE   COMMUNITY

The Jopadhola cultural leader, Moses Stephen Owor, has called for unity and co-existence between his subjects and other tribes. Owor also challenged his subjects to promote peace in their families and desist from gender-based violence, which he said brings curses, instead of development into such families.

He thanked the Government for restoring cultural institutions, saying the Jopadhola culture has since made tremendous achievements in identifying and unifying all his subjects in Africa and the diaspora.

"Our research has revealed the tremendous achievements of the Jopadhola and the way they have contributed to development globally.

We have discovered that we have professors in American, Asia and Europe, besides being spread all over Africa, including South Sudan, where we have several priests,'' Owor said.

He made the remarks during the 21st scientific coronation anniversary celebrations, held at his home in Amagoro, Eastern division, Tororo municipality on Saturday. Tororo Municipality MP Yeri Apollo Ofwono asked the cultural institution to back their agitation for Tororo municipality to be elevated to city status and become the headquarters of the East African Community.

Ofwono said he had decided to unite with his predecessor, Sanjay Tanna, in order to achieve the common goal since they had been wrongly perceived to be the ones dividing the people of Tororo. He said Uganda government granted the cultural institution a frequency for the establishment of a radio station, which will be unveiled by December 2020.

 Education of children
The institution's ambassador to Entebbe and the diaspora, Usher Wilson Owere, reiterated the need for the Jopadhola community to continue loving one another and educating their children.

He also tendered in his resignation to allow him to represent workers in Parliament. Owere said being positioned at the gateway into the country, Tororo is strategically located and that he wants to effectively lobby for its transformation.
