Today, we celebrate the 7th Kampala Twins Festival. Unlike the past years, today\s festival is online. We looking back at the last six years of Kampala Twins Festival.

Jaylen Asaba Bagulaine Kato and Jaylen Asasila Bagulaine Wasswa were born on April 19, 2016 very much to their parents' surprise.

"We did not expect to have twins," say Jonah Michael Bagulaine and Emily Christine Mugabirwe, their parents.

Mugabirwe hated going for scanning so she did not know that her womb held a precious pair of twins.

She came to learn that she had twins when she was in the labour suite. She gave birth to Wasswa and to her surprise; the midwife told her she may have twins.

Indeed, five minutes later, she delivered Kato, who came from the same sack as Wasswa.

Mugabirwe previously loathed having twins and after giving birth, she rang her husband, crying.

"I thought we had lost our newly born baby [because she was crying]. She later told me that she had had twins, who she initially didn't want," narrated Bagulaine.

He said when their neighbours came to learn of the news of the twins, they were also shocked. Bagulaine said that it wasn't until they escorted him to hospital and saw the bundle of two that they believed.

"On reaching Lady Alganyera Maternity Clinic Nansana, the nurses were happy and calling me Salongo. They thanked me for being responsible and not abandoning my wife and the new-born twins," said Bagulaine. Salongo means father of twins in Luganda and Nalongo means mother of twins.

The couple is now overjoyed that God doubly blessed them with Wasswa and Kato.

"They are so funny; they call their dad Uncle Jonah, Dad Jonah and at times Salongo. Our Twins are amazing. They make us happy. When we tell them to go greet people, they just say, "Fine" and they leave," says their mother.

She says that when one twin wakes up earlier than the other, he makes sure he wakes his brother up. She is also glad that at three, they have learnt to share.

"One time, one of their grandmothers gave each a sh2,000 note. Kato lost his note and Wasswa tore his sh2,000 note into two and gave him a piece," explained Mugabirwe.
