COVID-19 update: Two NRM secretariat staff test positive

The NRM secretariat is currently carrying out the nomination of candidates who will participate in party primaries.

Two employees of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) secretariat have tested positive for COVID-19.

This was announced by the party Secretary General, Justine Kasule Lumumba, in a tweet on Wednesday.

"This morning, two of our staff at the NRM secretariat tested positive for COVID-19 and have been admitted to the hospital for proper care," Lumumba said.

"We are working with the technical people and further guidance to be given in due course. I urge everyone to stay alert, healthy & safe," she said.

Her tweet comes minutes after the Ministry announced five new cases of COVID-19 in the country.

Rogers Mulidwa, the NRM spokesperson, confirmed the developments.

"True there are some two COVID-19 cases discovered from one of our contact offices. This is, however, as a result of the vigilance of the Secretariat. We undergo tests every two weeks and we shall maintain this," Mulindwa said.
"It is, however, not true that H.E the President and National Party Chairman was at risk when he turned up for nominations on Tuesday. The function was limited to very few people and the SOPs were followed to the dot," Mulindwa added.
Mulindwa also said the tests were done on Monday and "we have reports that our staff are responding well to medication".

Uganda has 1,140 cumulative cases of COVID-19.

NRM is currently carrying out the nomination of candidates who will participate in party primaries.

Hundreds of candidates have for more than a week been picking and returning nomination forms to the party's Electoral Commission offices.
