KAMPALA- Residents of Universal village in the City Centre have elected a National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearer who will hold their village Local Counsel I seat in the fourth coming elections.
Gideon Karamagi emerged the winner after beating his NRM rival Joel Mulwana by 56 to 12 votes in a transparent process of lining up behind candidates in the party's primary.
Universal Village is comprised of over ten city arcades including City House, Drepa building, Hard ware City Basements, Nakasero plaza and Universal House, among others.
Karamagi, now awaits to face opposition candidates from Democratic Party (DP), Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), Uganda People's Congress (UPC), National Unity Platform (NUP), among others in the general elections.
Upon emerging the winner, Karamagi assured his a credible candidate who will beat his party's opponents come 2021.
"Being a youth and if elected the LC1 chairperson, I am going to tap youth into government programmes such as Operation Wealth Creation, youth livelihood and Women Entrepreneurship Programme (UWEP) in order improve their livelihood," he said.
However, Mulwana who lost could not believe it, saying voters are not easy people.
"Even friends could not vote in my favor, human beings are not easy," Mulwana wondered as Frank Mubiru and Simpson Muwonge went unopposed on representing the elderly and the persons with disability, respectively.
