Zoom meetings impress national netball Bogere

Before the pandemic, it was always believed that local coaches needed to travel abroad to improve their skills but with these remote meetings, the specialists are only a call away.

National netball coach Nelson Bogere has lauded the zoom meetings organised by members of the fraternity for educating people on the game.

"The meetings of course are a good idea because you get to exchange thoughts on different aspects of the game," Bogere said.

He liked the idea that players and other coaches involved have been able to interact with coaches and physiotherapists from abroad and have learned new coaching techniques in the process.

"You get to learn different things concerning our game to help you improve and get to know how others from different countries do it," he stated.

Before the pandemic, it was always believed that local coaches needed to travel abroad to improve their skills but with these remote meetings, the specialists are only a call away.

In only two sessions, those involved have been able to discuss the preparation of an individual's need to join the professional ranks and basic injuries and the ones that especially affect netball players.

"As a coach, you can't do everything, it's teamwork but it's also important to know about things like injuries, fitness, first aid, nutrition, the safety of players so zoom brings specialists in all those areas so it's good and important most especially if all players, coaches, managers and all stakeholders can take part," he explained.

A good number of local coaches and players have taken part in the meetings including some Uganda Netball Federation officials and players. Mary Nuba conducted the last session on behalf of meeting host Sports Physiotherapist Dr. Norman Stephen.
