The Catholic Church in Uganda has joined other churches and Ugandans to pray for the Kabaka of Buganda, Ronald Muwenda Kimera Mutebi II as he prepares to celebrate his 27 years of coronation.

This came shortly after the Katikiro of Buganda Charles Peter Mayiga requested all religious sects to pray for the Kabaka prior to his 27th coronation.

It is upon this back ground that all priests in their respective parishes in Kampala Archdiocese were requested to do special ‘scientific' prayers for the Kabaka in line with the COVID-19 guidelines.

The grand anniversary celebrations for the coronation will be held on July 31 at Twekobe, Mengo Palace and only 50 people will attend in observance of ministry of health guidelines.

Delivering Archbishop Cyprian Kizito Lwanga's message at Sacred Heart of Jesus Cathedral at Lubaga, Fr Dr Pius Male Ssentubwe said the King of Buganda is a very important person to the Catholic community for he gave them land where the Cathedral situated and schools which have helped a lot in educating Ugandans.

"We thank God for keeping Kabaka Mutebi alive and we wish him more years," Male Ssentubwe said.
