FINCA Uganda targets clients affected by COVID-19

FINCA Uganda, Managing director, James Onyutta said although it will need the support of policymakers and various stakeholders, they have decided to go back to the basics and address the typical customer.

Finca Uganda, a microfinance finance institution has launched a campaign that targets their clients who were affected by the COVID-19 epidemic.

"As one of the leading microfinances in Uganda, FINCA Uganda has grown with the support of many Ugandans, Building Tomorrow Together. It is time to live our tomorrow now. In order to save livelihoods and help create the first steps towards economic recovery," Managing director of FINCA Uganda, James Onyutta said during the press briefing at the launch of the campaign at the Institutions head office, Acacia road.

"As an institution that takes customer feedback to heart, we have come out with the "Tomorrow is here" campaign that pledges to offer service with incomparable quality. We want to be that financial partner that will help you to reach your financial plans. We want to be your preferred financial partner that will listen to you and offer you tailor made banking solutions to help you meet your financial growth objectives," Onyutta said.

He said that the world grapples with the COVID-19 pandemic and the impact on vulnerable people and the global economy will be felt for years to come.

"Many people in developing countries like Uganda still depend on the informal economy, where the road to recovery will be longer and steeper. Estimates show that over a billion people in the informal economy may lose their livelihoods due to the pandemic's toll," Onyutta said.

Onyutta said that during this time, microfinance institutions (MFIs) like FINCA can be critical partners in reaching the most effected populations which could save millions of livelihoods through the access they provide to credit, savings and other financial tools for self-employment activities.

Executive director, FINCA Uganda, Robert Kakande said that the team is built on inspired work of each employee, each of whom is part of our common team.

"We are committed to living our purpose and driving responsible growth on a unified basis for all we serve." He said.

Kakande said they have developed a number of products including self-managed group loans, personal development loans, small enterprise and agriculture loans products.
