The tractors and excavators provided to the district to desilt River Nyamwamba do not have fuel to operate

The Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga has asked the ministry of works and transport to help in the fight against the continued flooding of River Nyamwamba in Kasese district which is likely to result in the loss of lives.

This after the Kasese Municipality MP Robert Centenary raised a matter of national importance where he appreciated the government's intervention in the district after the river burst its banks but said the tractors and excavators provided to the district to desilt the river do not have fuel to operate.

Centenary said that as they prepare for the upcoming rainy season, the river has started flooding again which has put the lives of people in over 160 homes near the river in danger.

The legislator wants the ministry to come to their rescue so that desilting of the river can get underway.

"Right now we have over 160 households in Kanyangeya parish that are seated in water and they have started collapsing one by one. The LCs tried to mobilise to pump out that water but it is still a problem," Centenary said.

This prompted Kadaga to ask the minister to urgently intervene in the matter and report to Parliament on the progress next week.
