Police have arrested a woman in Kyengera, Wakiso district, who is suspected of sedating men before robbing them of their household properties.

Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson, Patrick Onyango, identified the suspect as Judith Atukwase alias Elizabeth Amanya, a resident of Kyengera.

According to Onyango, Atukwase was arrested following the robbery of household items from a man (name withheld), who took her to his home. It is alleged that Atukwase sedated the man at night before sweeping his house clean. Atukwase was arrested together with a young man, who has reportedly been buying the stolen items.

"The woman has been targeting men of different professions, including; bankers, lawyers, journalists, medics and businessmen," Onyango revealed, adding that on interrogation, Atukwase admitted to having been carrying out these robberies with her other accomplices.

In her statement to detectives, Onyango noted, Atukwase is reported to have said that she has a big group that includes foreign women from as far as Nigeria and other neighbouring countries.

From her home, Police recovered seven flat-screen television sets, a woofer, bedsheets, laptops among other household items.

"We suspect that there are very many people who were robbed by these ladies, but they are shy to report or come out to speak about it. We want to encourage such people to come out and talk to us to enable the detectives to stop the crime," Onyango stated.

Police are now looking for Atukwase's accomplices, who are said to be in hiding following her arrest. Women have for years been arrested after investigations have linked them to criminal gangs which target men before robbing them.

In 2014, Jinja Road Police in Kampala arrested a woman suspected of sedating men at their homes and later stealing their property.

The suspect, in her mid-20s, was reportedly using her beauty as a bait to lure men in city pubs. In 2009, a woman sedated men, robbed them and later dumped them in several isolated areas in Kampala.
