TORTURE COURT

A group of 20 youth have petitioned the High Court seeking redress against the actions of torture, inhuman degrading treatment, and violation of privacy allegedly perpetrated by the mayor of Kyengera town council Hajji Abdul Kiyimba.

Kiyimba has been jointly sued with the Kyengera town council, the Attorney General, and the deputy officer in charge of Kitalya prison, Philimon Woniala who they accuse of having tortured them while in detention.

The group led by a one Henry Mutebi claim that they were arrested from their residence in  Nkokonjeru during an operation spearheaded by Hajji Kiyimba.

Kiyimba accused them of flouting the presidential ban on public gatherings because they were crowded in one house.  He is said they were physically beaten by Hajji Kiyimba and other security personnel who also searched their house without a search warrant.

They claim that upon their remand to Kitalya Prison where they were held for 50 days they were subjected to corporal punishment and denied food.

For this, they seek several declarations against Kiyimba and the group saying they were subjected to inhumane treatment.

Hajji Kiyimba has not yet been called upon to defend himself.
