Three siblings were on Monday night burnt to death after fire gutted their house in Kihomboza 1 cell, Kihomboza ward, Bujumbura division in Hoima Municipality.
The fire broke out at around 10:30pm and burnt Jonathan Muganyizi, 5, Andrew Muhumuza, 4, and a two year old Asumpta Kabanyoro.
Their elder sister Juliet Tusiime, 9, is currently nursing severe burns at Hoima regional referral hospital.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the children were left unattended after their mother went to another home for the burial of a relative .
Derick wamani, a resident of Kihomboza says that they heard the helpless children screaming for help and forced the door open.
Julius Isingoma, the Kihomboza I Local council chairperson has blamed the incident on parents who lock children inside the house without notifying neighbors.
ASP Julius Hakiza Allan, the Albertine regional police spokesperson attributed the incident to negligence by parents and as Police they have started investigating the incident.
