As much as sh500m has been allocated to Masaka district for this round.

The elderly people in Masaka district aged 80 and above on Tuesday received their Social Assistance Grants for Empowerment  (SAGE) money.

This was during the launch of the scheme in the district by Vice-President Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi at Zzimwe Primary School, Kyanamukaka sub-county, Masaka district.

The programme was supposed to have been launched earlier this year but had to be suspended due to the coronavirus crisis.

New Vision Masaka's correspondent Dismus Buregyeya, says that the scheme covering Ugandans who are 80 and above is different from the pilot programme that targeted people of 65 years and older.

Each elderly is supposed to receive sh25,000 per month. For the months of January until June, they have received a total of sh150,000.

As much as sh500m has been allocated to Masaka district for this round.
