Enforcement officer beaten by rowdy taxi drivers

Police confirmed the incident and warned the taxi drivers from loading passengers from illegal stages.

CRIME 

KAMPALA - An enforcement officer attached to Nansana Municipality enforcement team has been beaten by angry taxi drivers.

Maxwell Kizza was on Monday beaten by taxi drivers of Namungoona-Lubigi stage along Northern bypass as he prevented them from operating in ungazetted area.

Kizza, who sustained injuries on the head was rescued by the Nansana police led by Brian Katabulawo, the officer in charge of operations.

 


In the circumstances, police was forced to fire live bullets so as to disperse rowdy drivers who had insisted on insulting the enforcement officer.

Drivers Warned

The Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Patrick Onyango confirmed the incident and warned the taxi drivers from loading passengers from illegal stages.


"We didn't arrest any driver but we advise them to remain calm and operate from only the authorized and gazetted stages,"Onyango said.

He added that Kizza was given first and later transferred to the hospital for medication.
